Outlook Express Details

Outlook Express is an older email client available by default in older windows operating systems up to and including Windows XP.

This tutorial assumes the following details, please substitute your details accordingly.

The details are as follows:

Account Name:

Email Address:

Account Type:
POP3
Password:

Incoming Mail Server:
mail.refreshcreations.co.uk
Outgoing Mail Server:
mail.refreshcreations.co.uk

Important! Your Outgoing SMTP Mail Address may be different to this: please refer to this list of servers for your ISP'

  • Setting up an email account in outlook express

    in the task menu click on tools -> accounts...

    A pop-up box should appear looking similar to this:

  • Click on the add button then click on Mail... from the pop-up menu.

  • A New pop-up box will appear, asking you to enter your display name.

    This will be sent with any emails sent from this account. So choose wisely, the click "Next>"

  • Now, enter your full email address, and click next

  • Now, in the E-mail Server Names box:

    Select POP3 As your type of incoming mail server.
    Enter the Incoming mail Server detail in the next box and the outgoing mail server in the box below.
    Your outgoing server may differ from the specified one, please click here to be taken to a list of UK ISP Outgoing Server Names and use the appropriate one for your ISP.
    Click Next>

  • Now, in the Internet Mail Logon Box:

    Enter your email address in the Account Name: and Your Email Password in the below box, check whether or not you would like outlook express to remember your password and leave "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) Unchecked. Click Next> and then Finish

    Now Click Close

Basic Usage:

Viewing Inbox Contents:

If you Click on the Inbox folder now you should see a demo message from Outlook Express, the contents of the email will appear in the bottom right pane.

Writing and Sending an Email

To create a new email click on the Create Mail Button at the top left of the window.

This will bring up a new window where you can set who you wish to send the mail to, send carbon copies (CC's) of the email to, The subject of the email and, importantly, the message of the email.

When you have finished composing your message, click send and the email should send itself out.

Check for New messages

To send and receive emails, you can also click on the send/recv button which will update your inbox with any messages stored on the server.

Please note that by default, once downloaded from the server they are deleted from the server, so the only copy of the email will be in your email account in outlook.

Notes

BT Internet Customers may also want to view this tutorial to ensure their email address is registered with bt before continuing as their policy on email spam is quite over the top.

Any emails you fully delete from webmail will be removed from the server an made unretrievable.
