Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla Thunderbird is a freely available email client which runs on linux, windows and other operating systems, including straight from a USB Key. This tutorial deals with Thunderbird Version 3

This tutorial assumes the following details, please substitute your details accordingly.

The details are as follows:

Account Name:: Refresh Creations Ltd
Email Address:: me@refreshcreations.co.uk
Account Type:: POP3
Password:: securepassword
Incoming Mail Server:: mail.refreshcreations.co.uk
Outgoing Mail Server:: mail.refreshcreations.co.uk

Important! Your Outgoing SMTP Mail Address may be different to this: please refer to this list of servers for your ISP'

Notes

Any emails you fully delete from webmail will be removed from the server an made unretrievable.

Please Note, me@refreshcreations.co.uk is not a live account, any emails sent to this address will be ignored.

Download Thunderbird for FREE at: http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/

From the main menu, click on: File -> New -> Mail account

Enter your displayname, email address and password, then click next.

Thunderbird will then automatically find your settings for an IMAP account.

You can change this to POP3 by clicking on the edit button then chaning the type in the dropdown from IMAP to POP then confirming this change.

Click create account and your account is configured and ready to go.

Click on the email address for the account you have created in the left hand pane and you should notice the get mail and write mail buttons are highlighted.

Clicking on these does exactly what they say and this email application behaves quite similarly to others when it comes to basic usage.

Add-ons can also be installed by clicking on tools->add-ons from the main menu. these vary wildly and allow extra functionality to be put into thunderbird.
